Kauai Ziplining!

Princeville Ranch on Kauai is a 2600 acre working ranch which the operators have also set up horseback riding and ziplining. How can you not take advantage of that?! That's what we thought, so with a phone call and a credit card, we made reservations for the ziplining adventure and headed out.

Make the jump for some more pics and videos!

"So we are going to put you in a harness with a pulley attached to steel cable that crosses a jungle canyon which has a floor 100 to 200 feet below you and you are going to speed a few hundred feet down this cable to the other side..."

Pretty sure most would balk at the idea. Us? Well, we paid to do this!

First you get a lesson on how to put on your harness, which is the same type window washers use. You then load up into the back of a retired military transport to head across the ranch. You then hike for a ways to find the first zip line, where you are told some of the basics of what you are about to do. The course is made up of nine ziplines ranging from 250 feet to 1200 feet in length crisscrossing a rainforest canyon.

There is a good bit of hiking back and forth between the different launch points, but there is also plenty of wildlife and flora to be seen along the way, so the hike is quite pleasant, if only a bit uncomfortable from having to wear the harness.

As promised, here is one of the videos we made with a GoPro strapped to Jesse's helmet. There really isn't a lot to say about it other than it is both scary and exciting and something to not be missed if you are physically capable.

As always, we've got a LOT more pictures.
Kauai Day 8

We've also got a playlist of videos from all the zipline runs this day. Some fast, some slow. Don't missing the "King Kong" 1200 foot tandem zipline run in the videos. :-)
