Exploring Old Dominion

Old Dominion is perhaps one of the most prominent mountains around the Colville region. Just to the east of town, it towers over everything else in the area.

While on a trip to visit the homestead Jesse and Debbie's Father decided to head up there since neither one had been up there in the years that either had lived there.

Make the jump for more story and pics!

The world has a different perspective when you are standing on one of the highest points around. Everything you know now seems so much smaller.

Calispel Peak, located next to the Idaho- Washington border now in full view. One of these summers we plan to go explore that area as well. But for now, and especially leading into winter, it would be impossible for us to get through the snow.

Now this peak is a little more accessible in winter. This is where the 49 Degrees North ski slope is. Great fun and one of the places Jesse frequented in his younger days.

We weren't able to drive all the way to the top. At least not safely. If you look at the first picture, you see Emma looking down a slope. This was where the road had slid away. If you find this road on satalite you can actually see just how big this slide was. The Green Monster probably could have squezed by the washout, but with wet soggy ground, snow, and a slide area of 150+ feet down, we just didn't want to risk it.

After hiking up the road a ways past the washout, we decided it was time to head back to the Jeep and drive home before it got too dark. Our destination pictured here. While the haze obscured being able to actually see the homestead, it was comforting to look at the valley and know it was there and we would soon be back there.

We've got a few more pictures for you to enjoy, please head on over: Old Dominion
