Powerline Trails outside Duvall, WA

Running between Duvall, WA and Sultan, WA are some high voltage power lines carrying electricity from one of our many hydroelectric facilities scattered about the area.

Word went out from the Around The Sound Jeep Club that the gate across private land used to access the power line trails was now open. They arranged a meeting time and place in Duvall, WA from where they would head up and explore these trails for the day.

It was open to everyone, not just club members. All you had to do was provide  a couple of items to be donated to a local charity. So armed with a couple of cans of soup, it was off to Duvall.

Make the jump for more reading and pictures!

There were a good number of Jeeps on this trail run. Everything from an older CJ-7, to nearly brand new and unmodified Jeep Wrangler Rubicons such as ours in the mix. There were people who had never been offroad, and there were people who spend every moment possible on the trails.

Gecko Perl is the color name of our four door Jeep. Because it is such an oddball color you don't see a lot of them around and at the same time they are very easy to spot. An interesting comradery seems for form between owners of this specific color Jeep. There just happened to be one other identical Gecko out on this trail run.

This would be the first time the Green Monster would get a chance to really exercise it's capability. Low range and lockers were engaged most of the day. It was a day spent finding out just what we could do with it. Here the skid plates are being tested, albeit unintentionally.

Of course you can't get away without at least one shot that is nothing more than a pose.

Debbie had stayed at home this morning to take care of some business while Jesse got to go out and have fun with the club, but as things wrapped up with the club, so did Debbie's work. So Jesse headed back home, picked her and Emma up and headed back out to take things at a slower pace, take some pictures, and enjoy the scenery without all the mechanical mayhem that goes along with 20 other Jeeps.

The scenery around our home really can't be beat. Even though we are only 20 miles from Seattle and the surrounding suburbia, even though we are only 5 miles from the nearest town, we still get to experience this isolated, tree covered, and quiet areas such as this.

Even in June, the mountains around our home are still covered in snow. Despite the power lines being in the view, as you look out you can see both the Cascade mountains to the east, and the Olympic mountains to the west. By this time, everyone in the area had left and we were blessed with spending the rest of the afternoon out here with nobody around. Few things beat a 75 degree day in a Jeep uninterrupted by other people.

Alas, this may be the last time we ever get to go up into this area. In the short time it was re-opened to public access several fires were started, people left litter and shell casing from target practice all over the place. The private owners in the area decided to close it off again allowing access to only the power company. Another area closed off due to irresponsibility.  Which is sad because it really is a fun place.

With that, we will leave you until our next adventure.
Be sure to check out the rest of our pictures!
